The science behind the Applied Assessments
The best available evidence tells us that CVs and unstructured interviews are pretty poor predictors of job performance. In contrast, testing candidates on what they are actually going to do in the role is a strong predictor and avoids oodles of opportunity for unconscious bias.
Applied makes it easy to replace the tired CV and cover letter application approach with an engaging set of short tasks candidates complete to demonstrate what they know and what they can do.
Selecting Assessment options (Build > Assessments >Options)
In general, studies show that the more that your hiring process tests candidates on the practical skills they need for the role, the more predictive and less biased your process will be.
But depending on the type of role, you might want to use different methods for assessing skills. In Applied, you can choose to test candidates using:
- Multiple-choice questions - these are usually timed and have one right answer
- Sift questions - these are short-answer, untimed questions that candidates answer in their own words (usually 250 words or less)
- Structured interviews - these are usually done in person or over the phone / video
You're welcome to use any combination of these options, simply click the "Assessment Options" section under the "Build" section to select the portfolio of assessments that best work for the type of role that you are creating (click here if you want to learn more about the similarities and differences across Applied assessments).
You can move the toggle buttons to decide which assessments you'll pre-set. The ones that you select will be displayed on your left-hand checklist.
Note: You can add the interview rounds and questions at any point before they take place. it's not necessary to add this assessment before going live with your role. |
